Remy Na asked:

There are many reasons that retirees and visitors choose to buy real estate in San Miguel de Allende Mexico. The price of land and homes is one of the top reasons that this town is a great retirement location to live in. Buying a home in San Miguel means only paying about twenty percent of what you would pay for comparable housing in the United States. This means that you can afford five times the house, or choose a more modest home and have plenty of savings left.

There are five different types of property in San Miguel, and these are classified as Federal, Restricted, Edijo, Unrestricted, and Historic. Federal land can not be owned by any individual, as it is government land, and this is land that spans from the high tide line to cover the entire beaches. No beach is privately owned. This means visitors and locals are free to take walks on any beach found. Property taxes in Mexico are much cheaper than they are in America, so the yearly cost of owning your home or property is a lot less.

Many people move to San Miguel to enjoy great weather all year long, with none of the problems and medical conditions caused by living in the cold weather. Beautiful cloudy blue skies and plenty of sunshine mean that you can enjoy the outdoors and amazing scenery almost every day of the year. The mountains in the background are great for hiking and exploring, and there is a wide variety of native plants, flowers, and animals to enjoy. Bird watching is a popular pastime, and reason that travelers visit the town from other places. Living in Mexico is not a complicated process, and if you buy unrestricted property there are no restrictions or limitations, unlike restricted property which must be held in a trust if the owner is not a Mexican national. San Miguel has a lot of beauty to offer, with fabulous sunsets that leave the sky dripping with vivid colors, beautiful sand beaches and ocean views, historic architecture that is amazing and exquisite and even quaint cobblestone streets.

There is so much to do in San Miguel that retirees will never get bored. There are many shops and boutiques to browse through, restaurants serving fine food and local cuisine, festivals that occur frequently through the year, horseback riding, walks along the beach, and just relaxing poolside. Domestic help is very inexpensive, and with the savings you will see in housing and living costs having a maid, a cook, or a gardener is very affordable. This gives retirees more time to enjoy all that San Miguel has to offer, and less time needed for ordinary house chores and maintenance. A couple can live very comfortably, including having a maid, for around thirteen hundred dollars a month, and buying a home in Mexico can solve the problem of a retirement income that does not allow comfortable living in the U.S. because of high costs.

Remy Na asked:

One of the best places to stay in San Miguel de Allende for visitors who want a bed and breakfast establishment is the Casa de la Cuesta. With fabulous architecture, clean comfortable rooms that offer access to patios and other outdoor areas, and the atmosphere offered, this B&B is one of the most popular places to stay when in the area. This establishment only contains six rooms, so there are never any crowds, and the sunset views and hospitality make this place spectacular. The artisans market is close by, and the meals offered are exquisite, and these are just some of the reasons return guests choose to stay at Casa de la Cuesta repeatedly.

Another great B&B to stay at is the Casa Luna Bed and Breakfast. This place offers a taste of romantic old world Mexico, with fountains, gardens, and vine covered hacienda walls. Casa Luna has two locations in San Miguel de Allende, Casa Luna- Pila Seca and Casa Luna- Quebrada, and both of these establishments offer gracious hospitality and fabulous rooms and meals. Either location is a great place to stay while you relax and enjoy your trip.

Another B&B that has great views, service, and rooms in San Miguel de Allende is Casa schuck. This colonial villa built in the eighteenth century offers guests a look at the rich heritage of the area, with rooms that are fabulous, and service that is excellent. Guests are treated like honored visitors, instead of paying customers, and everyone is very warm and helpful. The beauty of the villa and surroundings make this the perfect spot for a vacation or travel lodging. With only ten rooms, make sure to call for reservations.

The Los Pablos Suites Hotel is a themed B&B in San Miguel, and this place has only been open for a couple of years under the new management. This place is themed on famous people with the name Pablo, from Picasso to Newman, and it only has five suites available. The rooms are filled with antique furniture, and decorated with pictures of Pablos, but the establishment offers modern conveniences and an inviting warmth, with a staff that is very friendly.

The Inn By The Park B&B, in Spanish la Mansion del Bosque, is one of the quaintest places to stay. With fireplaces, meals that include plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables as well as local cuisine, gorgeous rooms, private baths, and beautiful scenery, it is no wonder that the twenty three rooms in this B&B are usually reserved well ahead of time. Enjoy drinks on the patio, or just curl up in front of the fireplace with a good book. This B&B is sure to please everyone.

The Posada Corazon B&B can be a great place to stay while enjoying San Miguel de Allende. With six rooms, one of which has access to a private pool, that are brightly lit and charmingly decorated, it is no wonder this B&B is so popular. There are gardens filled with trees and plants native to the area, wireless Internet availability, meals cooked using organic produce that is grown in a private garden, and much more to recommend this B&B as one of the best places to visit while here.

Remy Na asked:

San Miguel de Allende is a popular retirement spot for Americans and people from the rest of the world as well. There are many reasons why this jewel in Mexico is the perfect retirement location, no matter where you are from. Listed below are ten reasons why many people retire here, instead of somewhere else.

1. Cost of living- The cost of living in San Miguel is much lower than the cost of living in the U.S. It costs around one fifth of the price to rent or own a home in Mexico, compared to America, and living expenses are around one fourth of the cost in comparison.

2. Weather- The weather in this Mexican region is nice almost every day of the year. With blue skies and plenty of warm sunny days, this is the perfect location for people who want to get away from the cold.

3. Domestic Help- In Mexico, retirees can afford good domestic help, such as a maid and cook, and still live cheaper than in the United States. Instead of spending time cooking and cleaning, a small price will take care of this for you, and there are always plenty of domestic workers available at a great low price.

4. Population- The population of San Miguel de Allende is friendly, warm, and helpful. Many speak the English language, as well as Spanish, so communication is normally not a problem for retirees here, and there are plenty of new friends to be made.

5. Activities- San Miguel offers a lot of activities for retirees, whether they are active nature lovers or interested in things to do that are less active physically. There are shops and historic places to visit, horses to ride, and many beautiful and exciting things to see and do.

6. Scenery- San Miguel is located in some of the most beautiful surroundings in the world. From the mountains in the background to the antique villas, buildings, and architecture, the scenery is this quaint Mexican town is exquisite.

7. Location- San Miguel is a popular location with retirees, and visitors, because it is located close to many other attractions, but retains the Old World quality and culture. The border between Mexico and the U.S. is not far away, and there are many others towns and cities, as well as natural scenery and historic sights, to see in the surrounding areas.

8. Modern Conveniences- San Miguel offers modern conveniences, such as wireless capabilities, phone service, running water, and electricity.

9. Safety- San Miguel de Allende is a very safe place to live, whether you are from Mexico or the United States. The crime rate is very low, and there are many retirees who already live here because it is one of the safest places to live in the entire world.

10. Festivals and Culture- San Miguel has more festivals through the year than almost any other city in Mexico. This location contains a lot of culture and history still, and many retirees and visitors enjoy the cultural displays and traditions.

Remy Na asked:

San Miguel de Allende makes a great place for a romantic weekend getaway, or a weekend with the kids enjoying Mexico. This Mexican city has so much to offer that you will be amazed, and may make plans to come back again and stay longer next time. The people in this town are very warm and friendly, and English is spoken frequently. There are thousands of Americans and Canadians, as well as other nationalities, who have retired here because of what the area and town offer.

There are many bed and breakfast establishments in San Miguel which offer luxurious settings and accommodations, fabulous traditional Mexican home cooking, and all the amenities of home, yet with all the services needed and desired. There are many different styles of B&B inns, and they offer a glimpse of Mexico that can not be found while staying in a hotel or resort. There are also a large number of hotels and other lodging options as well, for those who do not want to stay in a home.

The town of San Miguel has been consistently named one of the best places to retire to or visit. There are many cultural activities and festivals which occur throughout the year, and can make a weekend getaway to San Miguel unforgettable. The town also offers a large number of shops and boutiques, so shopping is a very popular pastime while here. Dining in this town can be a truly unforgettable experience, with a vast variety of regional cuisines and new types of cooking, such as fusion cooking. Whether you want traditional Spanish tapas or an authentic Italian meal, as well as every other nationality of food in between, there are plenty of places to go.

Even if you only have time for a weekend getaway, San Miguel is the place to go to relax and enjoy yourself. The center of town still has a quaint small Spanish village feel, with vibrant colored paint on homes, and plenty of shops, ice cream stores, cantinas, artisan boutiques, assorted merchants, and art galleries. A stroll through the area is delightful, and browsing through the wide variety of shops and stores can take up an entire day by itself.

Los Pocitos is an assortment of orchid gardens filled with exquisite and unusual varieties of orchids, and these gardens once belonged to Stirling Dickinson, a famous American botanist and writer who enjoyed orchids. There are also horseback tours of the area, tours of the town’s richest homes on Sundays, and much more to see and do. No matter what your reason is for a weekend getaway, whether it is romantic, family oriented, or just a trip with friends, there is something in this town sure to please everyone. The town is really perfect for a romantic trip, with the mountains in the background and all the romantic locations and scenery.
Remy Na asked:

San Miguel de Allende is one of the best places to visit or live in Mexico, especially if you are American or Canadian. This beautiful jewel offers many sights and activities for visitors and locals alike, and there is an abundance of nightlife and clubs for your enjoyment. When the sun goes down this quaint Mexican town really knows how to party, and is not ashamed to show it. There are many clubs and bars, over two hundred and growing, for you to choose from, and each is different and unique in an original way.

Mama Mia’s is actually four different night clubs and bars under one name and roof. The center club is a restaurant and bar, and delicious Italian food is served here as well as drinks. To the left of the entrance is the sports bar, for game enthusiasts and sports nuts, and this club normally has some type of sport playing on television. To the right of the entrance is what Americans think of when they want to visit a club, and this is the music bar. This bar frequently features local musicians and bands. There is also a rooftop lounge, which is easy to miss because it is hidden away, that offers beautiful views and plenty of romance.

Another top club in San Miguel de Allende is El Grito, and this club is the most popular spot in the whole city, as well as the most expensive. The cover charge is fifteen dollars normally, but the views inside are well worth the cost. The club is decorated with exquisite glass and stone sculptures, fabulous displays of light, and music. This club is only open on Fridays, Saturdays, and certain holidays, when the cover charge can go as high as fifty dollars for New Year’s Eve.

Panchos and Lefty’s is another popular drinking spot in San Miguel de Allende, and this club is considered on of the most American clubs in the town. The name of the club was recently changed to Chocolate, and this place offers dancing, drinking, sporting events, and music. This club has a tourist feel to it, with no local flavor.

Mechicanos is a club that offers two different stories. The decorations for the first floor have a theme of red, white, and black, while the second story is decorated in woods, red, and black, and reflects the religious heritage of Mexico, with crosses and pictures of the Virgin Mary evident. El Ring, another great club in San Miguel, is located at 25 Hidalgo, and this club used to be the most popular spot for nightlife. Created from a previous **** fighting ring, this disco is open Thursday through Saturday every week, and they offer music which is vibrant and energetic.

With over two hundred bars and clubs to choose from, San Miguel has a lot to offer anyone who enjoys the night life and partying. No matter what you are looking for, whether it is drinking, dancing, sports, or just hanging out meeting new people, there are clubs which are a perfect fit in this fabulous city.

Remy Na asked:

The town of San Miguel de Allende is known as a very popular tourist destination, and the perfect location for retirees from other countries to relocate. The town has more than two hundred night clubs and bars for visitors and locals to enjoy. It does not matter what type of music you enjoy, or if you are into watching sports while having a drink. There are a wide variety of bars and night clubs, and each one offers something special and unique. The most popular club in the entire town is El Grito, and this is also very expensive, even by American standards. The club charges a cover charge on normal nights of fifteen dollars, and on holidays the cost for the cover can go as high as fifty dollars a person, and this is not in pesos. If money is a problem, or you prefer not to splurge, there are plenty of other places that will offer just as much fun and entertainment.

Mama Mia is another popular place that many locals and visitors flock to. This great complex actually houses four different bars and clubs, catering to different preferences and tastes. There is also Berlin, which has German owners and the German food is excellent. La Cava de la Princesa and Planeta Dorado both also offer a fantastic atmosphere, great food, and plenty of drinks and friendly people. Mexicana is a terrific place right off the main square with a great black, red, and white theme. No matter what your idea of a good time is when it comes to clubs and bars, there are sure to be several places in San Miguel that will become favorites.

Some bars and clubs are only open on specific nights, but many of the restaurants, bars, clubs, and dance halls are open six or seven nights a week, and there are plans for each night that can last until early morning. With the wide variety of bars and clubs strewn throughout the town, finding one that you are comfortable in is just a matter of simply looking around in the area near you. Some of these places are set up for visiting tourists, and there may not be many locals there, while others are favorites with locals and visitors both, and these are the bars and clubs that have authentic local color and flavor.

Chocolate, formerly known as Poncho and Lefty’s, mixes a terrific drink, but this bar caters mainly to the tourists. This can make an American feel at home, and they can be sure English will be understood, but it has the feel of an American bar, and there is no color or history in the place. After all, what is the point of visiting this fabulous city if you do not mingle with the locals, and observe their traditions and cultures.

The town of San Miguel de Allende has many great clubs and bars to choose from for your night out on the town. A quick search online can reveal hundreds of these places, and each one has something worth visiting for.

Remy Na asked:

San Miguel de Allende is a fabulous place to come to, whether you are just getting away on vacation or looking to retire in the place of your dreams. This town is called the jewel of Mexico, and for good reason, and it is a popular spot for tourists and foreign retirees. Short and long term rentals can be found in abundance here, so no matter what your rental needs are, the town has what you are looking for.

There are many different types and styles of rental property available in San Miguel, from apartments overlooking the quaint town to homes and villas that are private and out of the way. Colonial homes, complete with fireplaces, fantastic decorations, and much more can be rented by the week, month, or even the year if you choose. There are many apartments and rooms for rent as well. There are villas for rent, some complete with private pools, gardens, and views, and also bungalows. Bed and breakfast establishments make short term rentals quick and simple, and many of these lodging houses will allow you to make reservations for as long as you want, as long as advance notice is given.

Whether you are looking for a place to rent for a romantic weekend getaway, a family vacation for a month, or even a home to rent during your retirement in this fabulous town, there is plenty of great locations and places to enjoy. A quick online search will reveal a large number of rental and real estate companies that will be happy to help you find the rental you are looking for, and find you possible short or long term rental property that fits your specific needs and requirements. These companies can help make finding that perfect rental home or apartment quick and easy, without spending hours or days going through possible rentals only to find that each one is either unsuitable or not want you want.

Because San Miguel is such a popular tourist destination, the rental market is very big. There are many types of homes and apartments that are available to be rented, and they can range from modest and affordable one bedroom apartments to elegant and expensive town homes. No matter what your budget is, there are rentals in San Miguel de Allende that will fit in it. There are places that have a monthly rent in hundreds of dollars, all the way up to lavish and extravagant rentals that can cost thousands of American dollars each month. One big reason that rental property is so popular in San Miguel is the fact that the same rental property in America would cost three to five times as much each month to rent. This makes these places very popular with retirees and vacationers who do not want to purchase a home, but plan on staying in town for a few days or more. Many times renting property can cost less than renting a hotel room, and with many more conveniences and benefits.

Remy Na asked:

The town of San Miguel de Allende has a large number of hotels to cater to visitors and tourists on vacation. There are several different types of lodging options, including traditional hotels, bed and breakfast Inns, and others. The best place to stay according to most visitors and travel guides is the Hotel Casa de Sierra Nevada, and this is a five star inn that is comprised of five distinct buildings that are located close to the center of town. There is a pool in one of the five buildings, and this is unusual in this Mexican town, because the large hotel chains have not been allowed in. The rooms offered by this five star hotel are the height of elegance and luxury, and some of the rooms available include a quarry stone fireplace that works, and bathrooms tiled with Talavera tiles. The price tag for this luxury does not come cheap, and these rooms go for between two hundred and twenty to three hundred and sixty six American dollars, and this is very extravagant for a hotel in Mexico.

Most lodgings here in San Miguel consist of colonial homes which have been remodeled, so hotels are a big deal, but there are still plenty to choose from. In the center of town there are some very nice places, and the cost is significantly lower than a five star hotel. The Casa Rosada Hotel offers sixteen rooms that are spacious, and some of these include terra cotta floors or canopied beds, along with fabulous decorations. These rooms can be had for around one hundred and sixty dollars. The Villa Rivera contains twelve rooms which are cozy and perfect for romantic getaways and couples on a honeymoon. There are also exquisite gardens, a pool, and a restaurant on the grounds, and some of the rooms have fabulous views of the town or working fireplaces for that special mood. This hotel is a little more pricey, with a cost between one hundred and seventy to two hundred and thirty dollars, depending on the specific room.

There are many quality hotels and bed and breakfast establishments which offer great lodgings and service for even less. Casa Carmen is a terrific B&B that is located close to El Jardin. This lodging house offers eleven rooms, and the price starts at seventy dollars per night, with a twenty five dollar charge for an additional guests. This price includes both breakfast and lunch during your stay, and the lunch meal includes a soup and dessert along with the entree. The meals are substantial and excellent quality and taste, and the owner is quite warm and friendly. Another great hotel in this price range is the Meson San Antonio. The rooms in this hotel are very spacious, and the hotel is quiet and peaceful. The cost of a room includes a continental breakfast, and there is room service available for simple items, like a sandwich and fresh local fruit or other quick and easy fare, for an additional charge.

Remy Na asked:

San Miguel de Allende has many amazing restaurants and places to eat that are sure to delight your taste buds no matter what kind of a budget you are on or what your personal tastes are. There are restaurants in this town that offer authentic cuisine from all over the world, from Mexican to Italian, from Chinese to American. No matter what you are in the mood for, there are several restaurants here that will fit the bill.

For locals and visitors who are going out for a special occasion, La Capilla is one of the top restaurants in the city. Be warned, though, that this meal can be very expensive compared to Mexican standards, or even American standards. La Capilla serves unique and innovative poultry and seafood recipes, with sauces created using exotic fruits, spices, and cheeses. Dishes are served on the terrace, which used to be a part of the old Parroquia church property. A couple can enjoy a three course meal, with wine, for around two hundred American dollars, which is steep for many.

A great place to eat while visiting San Miguel is Bugambilia, located at number forty two Calle Hidalgo. This restaurant is popular for chicken mole, sopa azteca, and other dishes that are part of the traditional Mexican fare. The dining room is decorated with a giant bougainvillea plant. This eatery has a more modest price, with dinner for a couple costing a little more than fifty dollars including the wine.

La Cartuja, which is located at 109 Calle Hernández Macias, serves traditional Spanish recipes in an Old World setting which is both exciting and intimate. The menu includes a number of tapas, as well as staples like Serrano ham and other Spanish treats. It is a little less expensive than Bugambilia, but still has exquisite traditional Spanish food and quality wines available. Dinner for two including a nice bottle of wine will cost around forty five dollars for a couple.

Posada Carmina is a must visit for those traveling or living here who like to try new flavors. This eatery is located in the patio of an Inn, which is set in a colonial house. The recipes offered are known as fusion cuisine, and it is a combination of traditional Mexican and Spanish elements together with oriental dishes and flavors, creating unique and tasty dishes.

San Miguel even has a restaurant that caters to individuals who choose to eat only organic foods. Naturalismo offers organic home cooking that delivers on flavor and visual appeal. In Mexico, organic food is not always easy to find, but this restaurant will appeal to everyone, even those who usually do not eat organically grown fruits and vegetables.

Mama Mia’s is one of the most popular restaurants and bars in San Miguel, and this place offers fabulous authentic Italian food at very reasonable prices, as well as a terrific atmosphere. The restaurant is located in the center, and there are three bars and clubs here as well. There is a rooftop terrace, a sports bar, and a music bar along with the restaurant, so no matter what your tastes in entertainment are there is something here for everyone.

Remy Na asked:

San Miguel de Allende, Mexico is a town that is rich in history and culture, and is steeped in tradition. The entire town has been designated a national monument. San Miguel is around four hundred and fifty years old, and plays an important role in the history of the entire country. In the year 1542, Fray Juan de San Miguel started a mission in the Chichimeca area, and became known as San Miguel de los Chichimecas at first. Eventually the name of the town that sprang up around the original mission was changed to San Miguel el Grande, so that it was not confused with other cities and towns named San Miguel.

The conspiracies which resulted in the Independence of Mexico was started in this town, by Ignacio Allende and Father Hidalgo, who happened to be the parish priest from the town Dolores Hidalgo nearby. Both these men were born in Mexico to Spanish parents, which made them creoles and considered second class to pure Spaniards born in Spain. This ignited the war which followed. After the town was given city status by the government of Guanajuato, the name of the town was changed to San Miguel de Allende to honor the hero of the Mexican Independence, who was born in the town.

San Miguel de Allende today is still very much a quaint town with many historical sites, buildings, and locations to see and visit. The entire town is a national monument designated as such by the Mexican government,, and is protected to keep the history and culture of the area unchanged and preserved. Many foreigners retire here or visit on vacation, because the weather is perfect almost every day of the year and the climate is warm all the time. There is a museum in town that still contains weapons, letters and notes, and other historical items that were used or written by Ignacio Allende. There is a restaurant that serves meals and drinks on a patio that once was part of a church in the past. There are homes that date back more than one hundred years, a town square that is still used every day, and many historic places to see for anyone interested in the past of this fabulous vacation spot. Some lodging houses and bed and breakfast establishments are located in antique homes in colonial and other historical styles, and buildings designated as historical have restrictions placed on what renovations and changes can be made to keep this history.

In the early nineteen fifties, a mineral spring named La Gruta was discovered, and this spring has proven healing qualities. This discovery turned the town of San Miguel de Allende into a popular tourist destination. San Miguel de Allende is a fascinating place to visit or retire to. The beautiful scenery and countryside, friendly people and warm hospitality, large number of variety and attractions, and the rich history and traditions make this location one that is simply the perfect choice for a trip back to the past while enjoying the present.
