Das Hotels asked:

Travel Guide – RTWs

Many major airlines have clubbed together to form groups that offer Round the World Tickets. For the independent budget traveller this is the most economical way to see the world. Typically tickets cost around US$2000 and will see you completely circumnavigating the globe. Many are actually really flexible – you can call a number and have the date and time of your flight changed at very little or no cost – when you’re choosing a ticket keep this as a consideration, chances are you will phone up and stay that bit longer somewhere.

What do you need to think about when purchasing a round the world ticket ? Locations, follow the rules of the ticket, some say you can only go in one direction – eg. East. However, for jet lag, it’s easier going west! But for some reason going east is more popular.

Don’t forget your visa! Some countries require visas even just for passing through – the big one to consider is the USA – make sure that you know what visa you require for the USA and if you need a transit visa.

How do round the world tickets work? Groups of airlines form alliances to offer near-global coverage. They then offer flights on the airline that covers each leg of the journey, which allows a round the world ticket to offer many more destinations.

Group One – StarAlliance

Air Canada, Air New Zealand, ANA, Asiana Airlines, Austrian, bmi, LOT Polish Airlines, Lufthansa, SAS, Singapore Airlines, Spanair, Thai Airways International, United, US Airways and VARIG

Features of a Star Alliance Round-the-World Ticket

You can travel with any member airline (there are some flight exceptions)

Start and end of your journey have to be located in the same country

Only one Atlantic and one Pacific crossing should be included in your itinerary.

Available for travel in First, Business or Economy Class! (where your budget traveler will find oneself)

There are usually fare levels. StarAlliance has levels allowing you to travel up to 29,000, 34,000 or 39,000 miles.

Fares will depend on the origin and the class of service of your journey.

There is no high season surcharge, so it does not matter when you depart. You simply need to determine the class of service and the total mileage you need. A major positive for the independent traveler.

If your journey originates in Canada, USA or Mexico, you can buy your ticket up to seven days before departure. In all other cases, you can buy your ticket at any time before you depart.

Your journey may last any time between 10 days and a year. You can change the dates of most of your flights at any time, except for those flights up to and including your first international or intercontinental journey. For a small fee, you will be permitted to change destinations.

You can take as few as three, or as many as 15 stopovers in different cities (within the permitted mileage). The maximum number of stopovers within certain regions may be limited.

These tickets are available from a travel agent representing one of the airlines in the group.

http://www.dashotels.net

David Snyder asked:

I recently made my second trip to Mexico City. Like all cities, Mexico City, was a more appreciable experience the second time. Whether this was do to my familiarity with my surroundings this time around, or simply the amazing treatment I received, one thing is certain, it was made better all around by my stay at

the Gran Melia Mexico Reforma.

Mexico City is truly one of the world’s most exciting travel destinations. It is the largest city in the world, as well as being the financial, cultural, and political epicenter of Mexico, and Latin America in general.

Paseo de la Reforma is the city’s main thoroughfare. It is part of the reason Mexico City has been referred to as the “Manhattan” of Latin America. This elegant street is lined with dozens of beautiful monuments, including the Independence Monument, which has become a trademark of Mexico City. Sharing space along Paseo de la Reforma are high-rise office buildings, embassies, hotels, colonial mansions, and shaded pedestrian promenades.

Among these buildings is one of the finest of all the Mexico City hotels, the Gran Melia Mexico Reforma. Built in an elegant, modern style, the hotel’s impressive 20-story atrium-style lobby features a monumental abstract sculpture, seating areas enclosed in brass-ribbed gazebos and a classic European flair. Gran Melia Mexico Reforma is a Sol Melia brand hotel, and this can be seen in its attention to detail.

The hotel, like all Sol Melia properties, has modern facilities and boasts first class service. From amazing dining options to a spa that is second to none in Mexico, Gran Meliá Mexico Reforma offers guests every comfort imaginable.

Gran Meliá Mexico Reforma, located on the recently renovated Paseo de la Reforma Avenue, near the financial, cultural and historic district and with convenient access to the Polanco and Santa Fe business areas, is the perfect place to stay for anyone visiting Mexico City for pleasure or business. My stay was for a bit of both, and it served me wonderfully in this dual function.

The hotel itself is just 12 miles from the international airport and 31 miles from the pyramids of Teotihuacán. Everything is at your fingertips when you stay at the Gran Melia Mexico Reforma, a fact which made my vacation as convenient as it was comfortable.

When it came time to dine I didn’t even need to leave the property. Gran Meliá Mexico Reforma offers several first class restaurants in Mexico City that offer guests the very best in Mexican and international cuisine. The Sol Melia concept of service flows into the restaurants as the amazing dishes are accented by exceptional treatment by the staff. May I suggest the paella at L’Albufera, it was sold to me as “the best paella in Mexico City”, and it did not disappoint. L’Albufera is one of the Mexico City restaurants you must visit when in this ancient city.

I took the hotel concierge’s advice and spent one of my afternoons at the Museo Franz Mayer. The building itself is a piece of history dating back to the 16th century. It has been beautifully restored, and now houses exquisite colonial-era art and rare items accumulated by Mayer himself and donated to the people of México. This museum features mostly functional pieces, such as furniture, watches, trunks, utensils and altarpieces. This amazing personal collection is on par with the Lightner Museum in St. Augustine, Fl, which is one of my favorite museums in the entire United States.

Back at the hotel I decided to indulge in some time at the spa. Gran Melia Mexico Reforma was the first spa in Mexico to receive official Mexican Spa Certification. This is just one way that you can tell you will be getting the pinnacle of spa service when you enter the spa at Gran Melia Mexico Reforma.

From www.GranMeliaMexicoReforma.com:

Located on the ninth floor, the Spa features six massage rooms, a relaxing living room, a sauna and steam bath, a full-service beauty parlor, as well as a state of the art gym overlooking the city. Featured treatments include Shiatsu massage, hot stone massage, aromatherapy, and ****** treatments. The Spa also has an elegant heated pool with an artificial current, and three semicircular spa tubs. The pool area is enclosed by a glass solarium roof for an outdoor feel in the middle of the city.

The experience is as amazing as they make it sound. I have never experienced spa treatment sessions like the services at Gran Melia Mexico Reforma, and I have been to spas around the world. It is truly one of the most relaxing day spas in Mexico.

In a short description, my journey to Mexico City was an amazing experience I will never forget. I have the staff at Gran Melia Mexico Reforma largely to thank for that. Hopefully they can make my third trip to this impressive city just as amazing.

ricardo lumbardo asked:

Mexico—the land of sea, sand, and lots of delicious tacos and nachos. There are thousands of people who would visit the country for business or leisure every year. Thus, there are various kinds of accommodations that are more than willing to provide you a place to stay in while you’re in the tropical country. They come in the form of inns, apartments, motels, resort villas, and hotels. Which of them can give you the best accommodation or your money’s worth?

Why You Should Pick a Resort Villa or Hotel

For travelers, money will always be a very important issue. Usually, you have to live by your financial means when you’re already on the road. However, it doesn’t necessarily mean that you have to scrimp on anything, such as your accommodation. In fact, it’s better to save some more on your place to stay in, since it’s going to be your home away from home.

Here are 5 ultimate benefits of choosing a Mexican hotel or a resort villa:

1. You can take advantage of high-end facilities. You don’t need to worry about anything anymore if you’re going to stay in such accommodation, such as a Grupo Mayan hotel. Besides having a very spacious room all by yourself, other world-class amenities are just within your reach. These include restaurants and cafes, business area, gyms and wellness centers, and swimming pool. There are people who can immediately take care of your need, such as when you need some food delivered right into your room or when you want your clothes to be laundered.

2. You can have free airport transfers and pickups. It would certainly feel good if you have somebody waiting for you at the airport, especially if it’s your first time in the country. A Grupo Mayan hotel, for instance, can have you pick up by a car once you arrive in Mexico. This way, you don’t end up rummaging for taxicabs or buses, tagging along those huge luggage.

3. You can definitely have complete rest. After a long day of walking around or swimming, the last thing you want to feel is being is cramped up in your little room, with a small or hard bed to sleep in. You can guarantee that in hotels or in resort villas, comfort is given primary importance. You can absolutely rest your weary body and your tired feet, while you soak in your own bathtub or Jacuzzi.

4. You are near to almost everything. Hotels are strategically located, which means they are normally just few meters away from popular attractions. This is really excellent since you don’t need to wake up early just to spend almost 30 minutes of your time traveling. In fact, to save you the hassle, you can just include yourself on their whole-day or half-day tour.

5. You can actually invest in their properties. Some hotels and villas like a Grupo Mayan hotel actually invites guests to invest on their properties through time share. This means that you can earn even when you’re in vacation or already out of the country.

WRS asked:

Travel Manzanillo Mexico, located between Puerto Vallarta and Acapulco in the state of Colima. It is positioned on what is commonly referred to as México’s “Golden Rivera.” This area was named for the occasional gold coin rumored to wash up on the beach, the result of a ship wreck less than 50 yards off shore.

Today, Manzanillo consists of two parts, the resort area on the Santiago Peninsula and the busy downtown commercial area to the south. Although Manzanillo is a busy port town, it has managed to retain to its laid back and tranquil feel accentuated with a lively authentic Mexican atmosphere. Book your stay at a Barcelo Hotel & Resort to take advantage of affordable Manzanillo vacation packages.

Manzanillo City Tour

With the city being recently renovated, a tour of Manzanillo is a must. Centered around a statue of a giant Marlin, downtown now offers more shopping and a new boardwalk along the harbor. Be sure and stop by Manzanillo’s oldest social club, “Bar Social”, as it has not changed since it was established in the 1940s. As you head from the harbor to the downtown area, you will see the “Jardin”, which means garden. This is where the locals come to have lunch, get a shoe shine, or just people watch. On cooler evenings bands will play in the gazebo.

Plantation Tours

Just north of Manzanillo are some of the most breathtaking countryside views in México. Gaze out over acres of coconut and banana plantations or tour the local mango and lime orchards and enjoy a refreshing drink.

El Salto Waterfall and Water park

Located just 40 minutes to the north of Manzanillo, this waterfall tops 100 ft. The drive is a spectacular adventure through rain forests and jungles and the local countryside. The blue pipeline you will see along the road carries iron ore from the Los Juanes mine at the top of the mountain, 37 miles south to Manzanillo. You’ll drive down the cobble stone entrance to the new water park. To get to the actual waterfall you need to continue to the bottom of the hill and park just after you cross the iron bridge. Unspoiled by tourism the waterfall is a must see.

Volcano Tours

Standing 14,200 feet, the snow capped and inactive Nevado de Colima Volcano, is a dramatic welcome to this area. Next to it is the 13,000 foot active Volcan de Colima. Volcan de Colima is México’s most active volcano and has erupted several times over the past 450 years.

Manzanillo Barcelo

john asked:

Plus, how do you ensure you will receive the level of quality that you’re expecting? As in many developing countries, there is a whole range of different properties to choose from, some of which can be limited in terms of modern conveniences they provide. But then again, this may be exactly what you’re looking for! Regardless, here are some tips on how to find a quality hotel in Mexico and advice on how you can ensure you are prepared as you search for that perfect Mexico vacation getaway.

Doing it Right: The Hotel Selection Process

Amenities, Price and Location. Those are the three most important considerations as you plan your trip to Mexico and book your hotel. And if you can plan far ahead, it just makes things that much easier. So where do you start?

The Internet: Using online travel reservation services to compare hotel amenities, prices and check reviews.

• If you have a certain hotel chain that you prefer, such as Marriott, check their website first for specials and discount rates. The top hotels will guarantee their rates as the lowest available. This gives you the security of knowing that you are getting the best price and are booking through a reputable source.

• Many hotels will offer vacation package deals which bundle your room with meals and other hotel amenities. Depending on your needs, this can be a great way to increase convenience and save some money.

• Check out property pictures, maps, and video clips from hotel websites.

• Find out how other travelers reviewed the property. This information can be found at various websites, such as http://www.epinions.com/ offer this.

• Check The Mexico Hotel Guide, TravelWeb, and PlacestoStay all of which have lots of independent hotel information.

Don’t Pay Too Much! Look for the deals.

• If you have some flexibility, determine if they offer lower mid-week rates.

• A good way to find local hotels is to read travel bulletin boards and look for recommendations made by other travelers, such as those made on Tripadvisor.com.

Hotel Specific Issues

• How is their customer service history? Have they received positive ratings from independent organizations?

• If the hotel is part of an international franchise, find out how the chain rates this property within their organization.

• Is the hotel located in a safe part of the city or area?

• Is any major construction going on in the area that could impact your stay?

• Will there be any large groups at the Hotel during the time you want to go?

• Do they have a concierge, shuttle, laundry service or other extra service?

• Is one side of the hotel better than the other?

• Is public transportation located close by?

• What types of restaurants to they offer?

• Is there a fitness and aerobics room?

• What are the local attractions?

• Is this a new hotel or have they gone through a recent remodel?

• What is their cancellation policy?

• Do they offer smoking/nonsmoking rooms?

• Do they have agreements with airlines, rental car or other partners? You could benefit.

• Is the airport close to the hotel’s location?

Other General Recommendations

• Be flexible if it’s feasible for you. The hotel sets their prices by supply and demand, so it helps to know when the peak season is. If you don’t know when the best rates are, just ask them.

• Frequent customers of chain hotels can register on the hotel’s web site to save time and effort. By doing this, your hotel room preferences will be automatically included when you reserve your room.

• By calling the hotel directly, rather than the chains 800 number, you might get a room at the last minute, or during peak travel times. The front desk at the hotel are more hands on when it comes to the hotel’s capacity and can check for cancellations or no-shows.

So there you have it, the best advice to finding your perfect Mexico hotel! Keep in mind; there are many great hotels in all areas of Mexico. From Cancun to Puerto Vallarta, there are plenty of reputable hotels that you will want to return to again and again. If worse comes to worse, use a reputable travel agent to help you find a great hotel. They can remove the uncertainty when it comes to selecting high quality accommodations.

Finally, enjoy your stay! Mexico awaits!

WRS asked:

Huatulco is the largest ecological reserve designated by the Mexican government, making it a truly a unique tourist destination, combining a modern resort infrastructure within a largely undeveloped natural area.

The Bahias de Huatulco offer 18 miles of clean and beautiful coastline, allowing you to enjoy a day at one of the dozen relaxing, non-crowded beaches in almost guaranteed perfect weather. For your more active side, Huatulco invites visitors to enjoy an exhilarating round of golf or an invigorating tennis match. Take advantage of Huatulco’s clear waters by snorkeling, fishing, swimming, sailing, or scuba diving. Travel Mexico and stay at the Huatulco Mexico Barceló beach resort to discover the hidden treasures of this unspoiled land while delighting in the benefits of affordable Mexico all inclusive vacations.

Relax during your vacation in Huatulco, whether it is a day at the beach or a shopping extravaganza, Huatulco has it all!

Shopping

The indigenous folk art of Huatulco has found its place in galleries, museums and gift shops around the world. From unique black and green pottery, to whimsical carved wooden animals, to boldly colored wooden rugs, there’s always something to catch your eye.

Golf

Be sure to enjoy the beautiful Tangolunda Golf Course, an 18 hole (par 72) championship course designed by Mario Schjetnan, which is beautifully blended into the surrounding jungle course features a spectacular waterfront green on the 13th hole.

Club de Golf Vista offers a 9 hole course, but be sure to arrange transportaions as it is more challenging to find it than to play it.

Sailing

Harness the wind and sail the sea on the 44-foot sailboat, Luna Azul. It’s a one of a kind sailing experience found in Huatulco, where you can let soft breezes take you away. What better way to enjoy a peaceful ocean sunset than on a relaxing sunset cruise, while enjoying a glass of wine and bit of cheese.

Cultural Walking Tours

Huatulco is easily explored on foot, and cultural walking tours provide a great introduction to the city. The colonial heart of the city is immaculate and clean, and a guided tour will walk you through this exciting historical area, explaining the significance of various sites.

Beaches

The coast of Huatulco, at least for now, has remained one of Mexico’s relatively undiscovered beach areas. This incredible location offers some of the most beautiful bays and beaches in the country. The Huatulco coast used to be one of the sea turtle’s worst enemies, lately it has become a savior of this endangered species. This is now one of the few remaining places in Mexico that you can see these beautiful creatures on a regular basis, in any numbers.

ricardo lumbardo asked:

Mexico is known for a lot of things—beaches, warm weather, beautiful Latinas and Latinos, songs and rhythm, and a wide variety of tourist destinations. However, it’s really the cuisine that allows this country to really stand out. After all, there’s nobody else in the world that can come up a dish that is rich in spices, flavor, and culture. Moreover, it’s normally elaborately presented, only improving its appeal to anyone who’s going to eat it.

History of Mexican Cuisine

A long time ago, the Aztecs, considered to be one of the oldest settlers in the country, would normally use herbs, chilies, and beans on their dishes. Their main staple was rice. With the arrival of the Spaniards, though, they learned to add more meat into their diet and expand their choices of ingredients in their dishes.

Rice is a well-known part of every meal. In fact, it’s already a staple, similar to corn. Nevertheless, you may find that the dishes in Mexico will slightly vary, depending on what region you’re currently in. For example, if you want to taste the most delicious chicken-based recipes, you may want to proceed to the southern portion of the country. The northern areas are more into real meat and a little bit of poultry, such as ostrich. Central Mexican dishes are a combination of the different recipes and food styles all over the country. The islands, meanwhile, are more known for their seafood delicacies.

The Best Treats

A trip to Mexico will never be complete without taking a bite on any of their most well-known cuisines. Just to give you an idea what to look for, here are some of the most cherished and requested recipes in Mexico:

Guacamole. This food is actually made up of mashed avocado, salt, and tomatoes. It was one of the dishes from Aztecs and is known to contain high content of vitamins and fat. You can also add your own flavor to it, by using any of the following: sour cream, black pepper, onion, cumin, or garlic, to name a few.

Arroz con pollo. This chicken-based recipe is very popular in Mexico, though they may be served in other Latin countries as well. It is very easy to prepare. All you need to have is the two main ingredients, namely, the chicken and the rice. To bring out its flavor, you can add saffron, vegetables, spices, and herbs.

Picadillo. There are a lot of variants of this dish, though the best ones are usually those that are made from Latin countries such as Mexico. It is mainly consisted of ground beef, mixed with potatoes, tomatoes, red bell pepper, and sometimes vegetables. They are normally used as fillings to tacos, but they can also be served as viand, along with rice or corn.

You will have better chances of tasting Mexican cuisine if you dine in restaurants and cafes that are found in hotels, such as in Grupo Mayan. Their Mexican food is authentic, and you can expect excellent quality.

ricardo lumbardo asked:

Mexico is where you would be able to find seemingly endless sunshine, fine sand and sparkling waters in its breathtaking beaches. If you are planning to go to Mexico to seek some beautiful world-class beaches, you are in luck because the country does provide a lot of options. The following are a few examples of Mexico’s stunning beaches:

1. Puerto Escondido. It has various stretches of splendid sandy beach, complete with a relaxed ambiance and reasonably priced accommodation. Zicatela is one of the beaches here. It is also dubbed as the Mexican Pipeline and is known as the surfing Mecca. There are other great beaches in Puerto Escondido such as the Playa Puerto Angelito found on the western section of the area. When translated in English, Puerto Escondido stands for “hidden port” and this charming community really lives up to its name.

2. Isla Mujeres. You should definitely drop by this magnificent island, situated offshore from the area of Cancun. The only beach on this beautiful isle is the Playa Norte. You would be able to take some diving lessons in the beach’s El Garrafon reef. You could also even snorkel or if that is not your thing, you could take part in a boat tour to the nearby Isla Contoy National Wildlife Reserve.

3. Playa los Muertos. This is Puerto Vallarta’s renowned public beach. You could start your day with a leisurely stroll near the shore and the have a beach volleyball game. After you have done some swimming, you could rent your own car to discover the rest of the vast Banderas Bay, which present around 26 miles of beaches. You could also have a look at the Grupo Mayan resorts in the area or you could stay at one of the Grupo Mayan hotels for a first rate service here.

4. Playa Icacos. This glorious beach is situated facing the La Palapa Hotel. The Playa Icacos is a popular beach, particularly for travelers and those who are in spring break. A favorite sport here that you could get into is parasailing and it is readily available at Icacos Beach.

5. Tulum Beach. Nestled beneath the Mayan ruins, the Tulum Beach is among the most striking beaches in the whole world. Tulum Village has an available car park, amazing restaurants, cozy motels and quaint souvenir shops, but its beautiful cove is not crowded and it is ideal for swimming, snorkeling and sunbathing.

6. Playa del Carmen. It boasts of fine sand beaches, crystalline turquoise waters and several accommodations, restaurants, and bars. All of these make Playa del Carmen an attractive beach destination for tourists. It is also a good place to purchase quality, handmade native crafts.

The beaches in Mexico are truly perfect for sunbathing, swimming, diving, and surfing, among others. The best time for you to have a Mexican beach holiday is from November to May. If you are looking for the best Mexican accommodation, there are several Grupo Mayan hotels found in some key attractive spots in Mexico. There really exist plenty of great beaches in Mexico, but there are also some excellent Grupo Mayan resorts that you could check out. During peak season, the beaches could become overcrowded so do not be scared to look for a secluded and serene beach haven.
